A temporary workspace for draft maps and collaborations…
Dunn Gardens web map (2021)
THREE different versions of the same map, using 2 different pre-made map templates…:
– “Basic”
– “IA Minimal”
– “DIY version”
Once we agree on the final version I can remove the “Basic”, “Minimal” identifier from the map title. They are just so that we can discuss which one is which.
ALL of the map templates have:
– The option for a location Search bar (or not)
– The option for Sharing the map (via URL or Social Media), or not
– The ability to pan / zoom / click-for-popup
– The same basic function / requirement for clicking the link in the pop-up to go to the database website…
– The option of a shortened URL
– The option of a scale bar (or not)
– The option of a splash screen (if desired) or not (I think I could add this to the DIY, but I don’t think you need it)
– The option of an About page (if desired) or not
“BASIC” Template

Pros:
– Has a Locate button (to show current location)
– The pop-up is on top of the map screen (which I prefer)
Cons:
– – Has a header box (on a desktop) or header bar (mobile)
“IA MINIMAL” Template

Pros:
– Can have a header (if desired) or not (optional)
Cons:
– – No Locate Button (have to click into the Search Bar to find the Location option – which works the same, but isn’t intuitive)
– – On my phone, the default / Home map screen extent (when the phone is in profile) is too far zoomed in… (when in landscape it’s about right)
– – The pop-up is a side-panel (below or beside the map) instead of on top of the map…
“DIY” Version

Pros:
– shorter URL (once you arrive there)
– smaller header (can be larger, smaller or removed)
– Locate button
– About page
– Seems to behave better on mobile devices (at least on mine)
Cons:
– – The pop-up is a side-panel (below or beside the map) instead of on top of the map…
